The Greek American Heritage Society (GAHSP) is partnering with Cosmos Philly to conduct the Love your Yiayia and Pappou Photo Contest.
The purpose of the photo contest is to document short stories and photographs that detail the connection between grandparents and their grandchildren. It also provides the opportunity for grandchildren to reflect and think about the impact their grandparent’s personal stories and experiences have had on their life. This GAHSP program inspires young people to appreciate and understand their heritage.
Children can begin to more fully experience their heritage by learning about the personal history of their grandparents. The Yiayia and Pappou Photo Contest aligns well with the GAHSP’s mission to inspire social change and trigger personal growth by reconnecting both youth and adults to their Greek heritage.
We Greeks love our Yiayia and Pappou and they play a significant role in our heritage. Do you have a great or inspiring photo of your Yiayia or Pappou? Why not share it on our site. Submit your photo and tell us the story behind the image or how it inspires you in 250 words or less.
Contest is open only to individuals who are of Greek descent. Submission deadline is December 31, 2013.
A group of judges that are familiar with the GAHSP mission and spirit will review and pick three grand prize winners, that will be announced January 15, 2014. Winners will receive Apple products.
All the images and their stories will be featured on Cosmos Philly and the Greek American Heritage Society of Philadelphia websites. Cosmos Philly reserves the right to reproduce images submitted to Cosmos Philly and the Greek American Heritage Society of Philadelphia for all promotional and future use.
