John Aivazoglou on Hellenic Hearts, Hellenism, and Giving Back

The Interview Series

John Aivazoglou, born in Greece, is an attorney, philanthropist, Archon, and co-founder of Hellenic Hearts. His life centers on family, church, community, and the Greek-American experience.

In this interview, Aivazoglou talks with Eleftherios Kostans about his roots in Thessaloniki, Atlantic City, and Eddystone. He shares memories of the churches, youth groups, basketball courts, and family ties that shaped his childhood in the Delaware Valley.

He also looks back on his legal career and the start of his philanthropic work, which began with a birthday fundraiser. Since then, his efforts have expanded to support scholarships, emergency aid, Orthodox institutions, and people in need.

To Aivazoglou, Hellenism means more than heritage. It stands for service, faith, and action.

“When I’m in Greece, I’m an American. When I’m in America, I’m a Greek,” he says. “So we are a hybrid of something very important, and I’m very proud to be a Greek American.”
