Dolly and Pony

The picture of the little girl on the pony is of my mother Olga “Dolly” Doukakis. It was taken at a time in Philadelphia when horses still trotted down the street! My mother was often called “Koukla” because she was cute like a doll. Eventually, the name took over and that is when she famously developed into the name “Dolly” as she was affectionately known the rest of her life.
And, yes, my Grandmother loved to pick up the manure from the horses to use in her garden which was why she had so many vegetables and plants!
